In this class, the section marked with the letter S is used to encode various types of injuries related to a particular area of the body, and a section with the letter T for encoding multiple injuries and injuries to certain unspecified parts of the body, as well as poisoning and some other effects external causes. In cases where the headline indicates the multiple nature of the injury, the "c" union means the simultaneous defeat of both of these areas of the body, and the "and" union of both the one and the both sites.

The principle of multiple coding of injuries should be applied as widely as possible. Combined headings for multiple injuries are given for use with insufficient detail of the nature of each individual injury or in primary statistical developments, when it is more convenient to register a single code; in other cases, each component of the injury should be coded separately. In addition, it is necessary to take into account the rules of coding morbidity and mortality, set out in Volume 2.

The term "consequence" includes these conditions as such or as long-term effects persisting for a year or more after acute trauma.

Codes of this heading should not be used for chronic poisoning and harmful effects of substances. In such cases, the codes of poisoning and harmful effects of substances are used.

In Russia, the International Classification of Diseases of the 10th revision ( ICD-10 ) was adopted as a single normative document to take into account the incidence, the reasons for the population to address medical facilities of all departments, the causes of death.

ICD-10 was introduced into the practice of health care throughout the RF in 1999 by the order of the Ministry of Health of Russia of 27.05.97. №170

The release of the new revision ( ICD-11 ) is planned in 2017.
